Retail News: Two new Trader Joe’s headed to Houston’s North side

Houston’s newest Trader Joe’s, pictured here, opened in October 2024, and at least one more location could open within the next year.

Houston may soon have two new Trader Joe’s locations along its Northern side. While neither store is set in stone, the more concrete of the two looks to be headed for 600 Kingwood Dr, Kingwood, TX 77339, taking a small portion of a former Randalls in the Kingwood Commons shopping center. Building permits have been filed for this location, and word on the street is that the lease is working on being secured. The other potential location is 9715 Towne Lake Pkwy, Cypress, TX 77433, adjacent to the Towne Lake shopping center. The push to build new stores on Houston’s north side is a likely sign that the Sugar Land location, which opened last year, is performing well. However, it is not the first time Trader Joe’s has looked North. A location at Cypresswood and 249 was planned in 2014 but never came to fruition. While the discount grocer has officially confirmed neither store, Kingwood seems to be further along the path to reality than the Cypress location.
