Fabric and Craft chain Jo-Ann will be closing four of its nine Houston area locations in the coming months. These store closings are part of a more significant move to cut 500 underperforming stores from the chain, which has filed for bankruptcy twice in the past year. Jo-Ann has been in the Texas market since 1979 and in Houston since 1981, originally under the name “Showcase of Fine Fabrics.” However, serious competition and a poor recovery from the pandemic have hampered the chain in recent years. The four closing locations will be 290 Meyerland Plz, Houston, TX 77096; 9960 Old Katy Rd, Houston, TX 77055; 15520 FM 529, Houston, TX 77095; and 1219 N Fry Rd, Katy, TX 77449. While no closing date is set, reader reports indicate that these stores are already running low on stock, and it’s unlikely the stores will see any significant restocking before shutting down. The remaining 300 or so locations are not slated to close, and in Houston, those include the Willow Chase location in Houston proper, along with locations in Humble, Sugar Land, Spring, and Webster. It is anticipated that a liquidator may purchase these final locations with the intent of closing them.
