Houston’s newest Goodwill has finally arrived, as the thrift store holds its official Westchase grand opening this week. The long-awaited store, located at 10770 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042, has been in a soft opening phase since late April but has been planned for quite a while. Goodwill initially had a spot in the neighborhood, further up Westheimer at its intersection with Dairy Ashford. This store closed in early 2020 without explanation, and GFS now fills the space. Although, in retrospect, it seems possible that Goodwill was booted in an attempt to refocus that shopping center. Goodwill’s new home started life in the 70s as a Handy Dan Hardware store and was later Houston’s only Syms location until that company’s bankruptcy in 2011. Tennis Express used the space for the past few years until they moved out in 2022. In preparation for Goodwill, the building was subdivided, with Planet Fitness taking over the rest of the space. Like other new or remodeled Goodwills in Houston, this store dedicates a portion of the sales floor to new packaged goods donated from major retailers.
