Retail News: Multiple Hooters locations around Houston area suddenly close

The now former Galveston Hooters now sits vacant.

The number of Hooters “breastaurants” suddenly deflated over the weekend as many locations across the United States closed without warning. The chain has been struggling with sluggish sales recently and targeted underperforming restaurants nationwide to shut down. Texas has the lion’s share of closing restaurants, with over a third of the 44 locations on the chopping block being in the state. Closed restaurants include 2519 Southwest Freeway near Kirby, one of the oldest continually operating locations in the state. 4710 I-10 in Baytown, an outparcel of the former San Jacinto Mall. 1818 NASA Road 1, a short-lived former Galveston County chain Busy Bee Cafe location. Finally, 6028 61st Street in Galveston. This corner originally was home to a Shoney’s complimented by Jet Ski parking!. It did not last long and was replaced by a Chinese buffet, followed by a few other independent eaters. As Hooters, this location closed “permanently” for at least a few months in 2021. At this point, it seems like this wave of closures is complete, but don’t be surprised if we see more Hooters locations go soon.
