The Houston-based Timewise convenience store chain has quietly been expanding into food service. Over the past few months, a pilot that started last year as a Timewise in Katy has expanded to multiple stores across the Houston area. The first store to undergo a conversion was at 23007 FM 529, Katy, TX 77493. This gas station opened in 2019 as an Exxon-branded Timewise and was one of a handful to be converted to Shell in preparation for Shell’s purchase of Timewise. In 2023, the store underwent a remodel to add a kitchen and coffee bar. The store was also updated to add grab-and-go cases for hot and cold food and self-service kiosks to order fresh meals. The menu still seems like it is being experimented with, but it mainly consists of Fried chicken (sandwiches, strips, etc), french fries, pizzas, and Tex-Mex options (tacos, burritos, empanadas). This store also received a complete decor refresh on the inside. As of this article, HHR has been able to identify five other stores that are undergoing similar transformations. These include 10902 Fry Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 (which has already opened its kitchen), 21710 Tuckerton Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 (construction complete, kitchen not yet open), 7171 Southwest Fwy, Houston, TX 77074, and 12907 Fry Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 (Construction underway). While Timewise has always been rather mum about its developments, if this concept gains traction, we could likely see a wider roll out on the horizon.
