According to permits filed recently, a Whataburger will replace the long-dormant Fuddruckers at 3929 Southwest Freeway, just past Weslayan. The Fuddruckers, which opened in 1996, closed along with other company-owned locations in the summer of 2023. At the time, Fuddruckers’ new ownership claimed the closings were temporary and based on the need for repairs. However, the Greenway Plaza location would eventually be boarded up and has been left in a poor state without maintenance for the past two years. A Whataburger has operated just up the feeder at 3797 Southwest Fwy, Houston, TX 77027, since 1996, and all indications are that this new location will result in the closing of the old one. The speculation at this point is that Whataburger will only use about half of the former Fuddruckers property, leaving room for extra development.
It’s a shame that company that purchased Fudd’s ran it into the ground…..it was poor management from day one!
