Retail News: Fiesta to return to Bear Creek

In a story that began developing about a year ago, Fiesta appears ready to reopen in Bear Creek. The store located at 4330 Hwy 6 N, Houston, TX 77084 started out life back in 1978 as a Gerland’s location. After years under that chain, it was transferred to Fiesta in 2001. In 2017, during Hurricane Harvey, the shopping center was severely flooded, forcing all businesses there to shut down. In 2018, renovation began on the Southernmost portion of the center facing Clay Road. However, after completing only this small section, work suddenly stopped, and the rest of the area sat vacant. It appears that a few factors were at play. First off, Fiesta supposedly had trouble collecting insurance payments for this, and other stores flooded during Harvey. The infamous East Freeway location still remains vacant, with a similar claim that insurance money has stopped progress. Next, Fiesta was sold to new owners not long after Hurricane Harvey, and it wasn’t clear whether they would reopen here. Finally, the shopping center was also sold. The sale of the center seems to have kick-started the current work on the plaza, which includes not only rehabbing Fiesta but also the remaining leasable space. While Fiesta has not provided an ETA for when this new store will open, construction appears to be nearing completion.
