Retail News: Fiesta may be returning to Bear Creek

This former Fiesta in Bear Creek started out as a Gerland’s in the 1970s, and could soon be reopening.

According to permits recently filed, Fiesta Mart is working on reconstructing a long-dormant store at 4330 Hwy 6 N, Houston, TX 77084. The store, which flooded during Hurricane Harvey, has been closed since 2017. The location, which opened in 2001, replaced a longtime Gerland’s Food Fair, which initially opened with the shopping center in 1978. During Hurricane Harvey, water from the Addicks Reservoir backed up into the store, ultimately flooding the entire building. Not reopening after the hurricane, the building has remained empty while Fiesta has been involved in litigation regarding insurance payments. It seems that a change in ownership just after the hurricane may have complicated the process. The storm also brought a similar fate to the Fiesta on the East Freeway, although the company has yet to make any moves on that site.

  1. Some of Fiesta’s prices have gotten to be higher than other places, so we mostly just go for weekly ad sales. We didn’t get Fiesta’s ad in the mail this week, though. So, just wondering, was it just missing from our bundle or did they quit sending it?
