Work has started to at least partially demolish the former Fry’s on West Road and I-45 in preparation for Joe V’s occupying the space. HEB filed permits earlier this year indicating that a Joe V’s was headed for this site, and signs posted within the past couple of weeks confirm the new tenant will indeed be taking over the land. HEB has not announced if they plan to build an entirely new structure, but this does seem like the most likely option. Except for its newest Dallas location, HEB has been known for building its own structures for Joe V’s. The permits filed indicate that Joe V’s plans to take up about half the space the former Fry’s occupied, so we may see them only demolish the portion they need and sublet the remaining space. The building, which was most recently Houston’s original Fry’s Electronics location, was originally a Builder’s Square II. The building was increased for Fry’s, which removed the garden center, lumber yard, and other identifiable features. This corner was originally a Kmart-anchored power center, which also contained a PACE Membership Club; all three anchor stores were Kmart-owned then.
What a bummer ;( This would’ve been a great spot for a Target superstore.
A Mi Rancho would make more sense at this location.
Oh wow. I was just there a couple weeks ago to take some pictures of the facade and the fences were not up. I might have some of the last unobstructed pictures before demolition.
