Retail News: Food Town confirmed to take over former Arlan’s spot in Santa Fe

Food Town will soon open a new store in Santa Fe, TX, in the former Arlan’s building.

Houston-based grocer, Food Town, has announced a new location for the first time in many years. The former Arlan’s Market, located at 12460 Hwy 6, Santa Fe, TX 77510, will reopen as a Food Town within the next couple of months. The site this store occupies is one of two grocery stores in the Santa Fe area, and originally started as one of the final Big Chief locations. Arlan’s took over the store and operated it until May of this year. The opportunity to keep a grocer at this location has been a priority of the family who owns the Santa Fe Junction Shopping Center and is being applauded by Santa Fe city leaders. Santa Fe provides the last grocery options along Highway 6 before hitting Galveston Island. Nearby Hitchcock had its grocery store shutter in 2014. The only other grocery option in the immediate area is a small HEB also in Santa Fe, which was originally a Holiday Foods/Minimax. This will be Food Town’s first new store since 2015, when they purchased the remains of Gerland’s, and the first new store on the Lewis side of the company since 2006.
