Retail News: Dave & Buster’s opening soon in Sugar Land

The building is undergoing heavy renovation and no longer resembles the stock photo taken last year in anticipation of this article.

The Houston area is set to gain a new Dave & Buster’s location for the first time in ten years. The new family entertainment center will be housed in part of a former Gander Mountain location in the River Park Shopping Center. The Gander Mountain opened with the shopping center in 2004 and has largely sat untouched until construction began last year. When Gander Mountain filed for bankruptcy in 2017, the Sugar Land location was one of the stores closed before a buyer was found. With the store closed, a few pop-up tenants, such as Spirit Halloween and Overstock Furniture, came and went, preventing Gander’s new owner, Camping World, from converting the location into a Gander Outdoors. Aside from these pop-up tenants, the building has been vacant since 2017. In addition to Dave & Buster’s, a Pickleball Court will be subdividing the Gander Mountain space. The most recent Dave & Buster’s grand opening in our area was the Friendswood Mall location, which opened in 2015 as part of the mall’s lifestyle center.
