Howdy folks, and welcome to HHR. Today it’s a Random Retail post! Random Retail posts are things that either don’t fit directly into HHR, or don’t make it into a full story. Today we’ll have some quick vignettes, but very little text. I hope you enjoy this edition of Random Retail!
Tuesday Evening
This was the store I visited during its going out of business sale, it was part of TG&Y originally.
The sign is still somewhat operating, months after the final shutdown.
Galavanting down T.C. Jester
I never pass up a chance to get a photo of a Sunny’s, I’m not sure if its an original, but it feels like it.
Fotomat! This shopping center is in Oak Forest, it’s where Supreme Sandwiches is.
A stop for some sweets at CornerStore, I mean Circle K…
Circle K pies, but wait what’s that to the right?
CornerStore baby! I’m not sure why these pies have the CST branding still, but I’m guessing they’re exclusive to Texas.
Stopping at Taco Cabana for a burrito
Hey didn’t this use to be Two Pesos?
What a wimpy salsa bar, well at least it’s back after COVID.
Goodbye Otto’s you’ll be missed
The Otto’s in Stafford was the only easily accessible location left, the other are all downtown in the tunnels. It closed over a year ago.
My Uncle was a regular at the bar and hamburger portion of the original Otto’s. We would go quite often, I didn’t even know the BBQ was a bigger draw until I got my drivers license!
It is great to see a surviving Fotomat hut in Northwest Houston! As for the Corner Store pies, I don’t know if Couche-Tard owns the Corner Store trademarks, but if so, it is possible that they’re using the Corner Store name in order to keep it active so that it can remain their trademark. Trademarks do expire if they are not actively used. Perhaps they are living off the increasingly distant memory of Corner Store’s reputation for baked goods as well.
had to research about fotomat… showing my age here. love this random content though
