Drive-thru salad chain Salad and Go quietly closed one of its Houston-area locations in mid-July. The store is located at 2301 University Blvd, Houston, TX 77005, sits just outside the boundaries of Rice Village, and opened in 2023. A long-standing home, previously converted to business use, was demolished to make way for Salad and Go. The former occupant, Village Greenery, was forced to relocate a few homes away to make this space available. This location represented Salad and Go’s only location in the loop, with most other restaurants out in the suburbs. According to permits filed earlier this year, drive-thru coffee chain Dutch Bros. has been planning to remodel and occupy the space. The exit of Salad and Go from this space marks the second Salad and Go location to close in the Houston area this year.
I cannot stand the concept. When I eat out, I want to dine-in. The lack of a dining room is unappealing. Also, the disposable waste they pump out with this model is atrocious.
Also, I heard from a health inspector friend that to-go only locations tend to be dirtier on the inside when the public lacks visibility of the inside. He refuses to eat at these type of establishments.
Its a great concept, however, the quality dropped big time after the first couple of months. No one like brown lettuce.
