Retail News: Food Town opens in Santa Fe today

This new Food Town will help to bolster grocery store numbers in Galveston County, which has been losing stores over the past few years.

Food Town opens its newest store today. The location at 12460 Hwy 6, Santa Fe, TX 77510 replaces a briefly vacant Arlan’s Market, which closed in June. The new store will feature an independently owned and operated bakery, according to comments from Food Town. The store is an important step for both the community and Lewis Food Town. The grocery store represents one of two long-standing sites in the area. The site occupied by HEB was originally a Minimax, dating back to the 1960s, with the current site being built in the 1980s as a Holiday Foods. During this time, the Knox family constructed Big Chief Foods, the site where Food Town now operates, offering shoppers a choice and competition in Santa Fe. The new store is also a good step for Food Town, which has closed two stores this year. The store also represents the first store opened by Food Town since its purchase of the Gerland’s chain in 2015.
