Retail News: Final days in sight for Meyerland Randalls

Randalls #41 signs off for good this Saturday, putting an end to nearly 40 years of history.

Meyerland will lose a grocery store this weekend when Randalls closes its doors at 4800 W Bellfort Ave, Houston, TX 77035. Randalls has quite a history in the area. They first arrived in 1961 via the original incarnation of Randalls. The store located at 10810 S Post Oak Rd, Houston, TX 77035 was part of the Super Value co-op and had initially been run by Belden’s. When Belden’s dropped, the location, Randalls picked it up as their first outside of its Southeastern Houston birthplace. That store would operate as a Randalls until 1966, when new ownership converted the remaining Randalls to Piggly Wiggly. The store was then sold to Foodarama in 1973, which has continued to operate it since. Randalls current incarnation returned to the area in 1987, with the construction of the closing location. Familiar with this area, the store was tailored to fit the community and included a prominent selection of kosher products, including a full-service kosher deli. After closing, this will leave us with 14 locations in the greater Houston area and 25 Randalls overall.
