Some long-standing retail rumors may come true if a planned redevelopment of the former Macy’s at Almeda Mall takes place. When Macy’s closed earlier this year, rumors began swirling about what was coming for the property. The building predates the mall and was suspected by many to be demolished to accomplish any redevelopment of the land. However, according to renderings and a site plan produced by the real estate firm handling redevelopment, the old Foley’s building will stay. At present, the plan is to use most of the space for an as-yet-unnamed grocery store (if rumors are to be believed, this new store could have a parrot theme), with the rest divided for retail and office use. The former Foley’s building will be divided into six spaces, including the reopening of the second floor. The plan also involves adding five new retail spaces in the parking lot and adjacent space off Kleckly Drive, which Macy’s owned but never used. As of this point, the plans are still preliminary, but a building permit has been issued to convert the former department store into mixed-use space.

Parrot themed… Just say Fiesta.
The timing on this news is pretty crazy. I had some time earlier to post my Macy’s pictures from the closing sale. I put a link to this story on my blog post.
