Bojangle’s Fried Chicken has finally returned to Houston after departing our market 40 years ago. The franchisee is planning six locations across the Houston area, and the first grand opening will potentially occur today at 19230 W Bellfort, Richmond, TX 77407. It was initially set for Monday but has been pushed back because of the weather. The other locations include 9534 Fry Rd (Katy), 6705 Grand Pkwy (Spring), 510 W Bay Area Blvd (Webster), 1401 E League City Parkway, 8239 N Hwy 146 (Baytown). The locations join existing outlets in Dallas and San Antonio. Bojangles first came to Texas in 1983 and opened locations across the state before exiting in 1985. The Houston franchisee cited a sluggish economy as his reason for closing. The article draws a comparison to the dissolution of Burger House, which occurred at the same time. Unlike the Bojangles of that era, this version drops bone-in fried chicken to emphasize chicken strips and biscuits/sandwiches instead.
