Party City announced its plans to go out of business just over a month ago. The decision followed the company’s second bankruptcy in recent years. However, the chain, which is comprised of both corporate and franchised locations, will not completely vanish. According to their franchisee, two Houston Party City locations will remain open, with similar news coming from Austin and San Antonio franchisees. While this might remind some of the shutdowns of Blockbuster or RadioShack, both of which left franchisees on their own, the future here looks much more optimistic. The remaining franchisees are working together on sourcing new merchandise and have even discussed potentially dropping the Party City brand if needed. While only time will tell if the Party City name survives, party supply stores will no doubt be around for a bit longer. The two non-closing Houston Party City locations are 19189 I-45, Shenandoah, TX 77385, and 20542 US-59, Humble, TX 77338.
I didn’t even know Party City franchised locations to begin with. This is going to be just like with Pancho’s Mexican Buffet, which was survived by their franchised locations after corporate shut down in 2012.
