HEB’s discount banner, Joe V’s Smart Shop, has begun construction on its newest store in the Houston area, in Humble. The new grocery store will be located at 19611 US-59, Humble, TX 77338, most recently a Conn’s HomePlus location. HEB filed permits for the new store in September of last year, months after HKA Texas first reported that a Joe V’s was potentially on the way. While Joe V’s has yet to make any official announcements about the new store, a recent donation of a book vending machine to Humble ISD mirrors a similar donation to Aldine ISD that occurred shortly before the I-45 and West store opened. Unlike recent Joe V’s in Houston, this new location will reuse the existing building. The building was originally split between The Fair, a Beaumont-based clothing chain, and Craig’s, a Houston department store chain. In 1988, Kroger opened in the space, replacing a former Weingartens, turned Safeway, which had closed in 1986. The old Weingarten space sits approximately where Petco is today. Kroger relocated to its current home on FM 1960 in 2014. Conn’s (which had been in the former Weingarten/Safeway spot) moved in in 2015 and remained there through the chain’s bankruptcy in 2024. This new store will be the 12th Joe V’s in the Houston area, and the 14th overall.
