Retail News: Barnes & Nobles holds first of three Houston area grand openings

The new Barnes & Noble in Weslayan Plaza

Barnes & Noble opens its newest store in Houston today, which will soon be followed by two more across the metro area. The bookstore opening today is located at 5510 Weslayan St, Houston, TX 77005. It could be considered a “technical replacement” for the Vanderbilt Square Barnes & Noble, which closed just over two years ago. However, it is in a completely new location, taking up the former spaces of Tuesday Morning and Famous Footwear in Weslayan Plaza. The next store to open will be 2920 Interstate 45 N, Conroe, TX 77303, replacing a Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed last year during bankruptcy. This is the first Barnes & Noble in Conroe, making it a completely new store for the chain. This location is expected to open within the next two weeks, and inside sources point to a closer date. This trio’s final “new” store is the currently renovating Town & Country Village location. The interior and facade of the old store have been completely demolished and are currently being rebuilt. This new location will be subdivided, making for a smaller Barnes & Noble location than before. At this point, B&N has not given an estimate on when the Town & Country location will open, but with construction started, it will likely be a few months at least. Happy Fourth of July from HHR, be safe, and have fun!

  1. Happy 4th! BN is scheduled to open a new store in Flowood, MS, on the 10th, also a former Bed Bath and Beyond. It will be the fourth store in the state — there’s already one nearby in Ridgeland, and it is consistently the busiest BN I’ve ever been to in person, so hopefully this new one does well too!
